Preserving the historic childhood home of Gen. William Worth
A famed general in the Mexican-American War, and the namesake of Ft. Worth (TX), William Worth's (1794-1849) boyhood home in Hudson, NY, was ready for the wrecking ball.
With the timber frame roof structure collapsing, the building was on the verge of imploding. A new truss system was designed by Charles Vieni, PE, and installed by Olde Mohawk. Installation of the copper-lined, yankee gutters and cedar shingles will start tomorrow.
UPDATE 07-02-2011:

We've wrapped things up on the roof. The Alskan yellow cedar is the historically appropriate choice--the eastern white cedar simply doesn't hold up well. In a couple of months the roof will fade to a light gray/silvery-white color.

As you can see, the masonry contractor has his work cut out for him! We'll update with more pix later in the Summer.
